The Original Ultimate Driving Machine

My BMW 2002 is my motoring passion.  I've had it for a nice long time now, and while it's no longer my daily, I drive it regularly around town, though more frequently it’s con gusto in the nearby mountains and foothills.  Every damn time I'm driving it, I get a huge grin on my face. It’s so time-warping to drive. Wherever I’m going, and always a blast getting there. It’s my version of classic automotive bliss, and it brings the  Freude am Fahren.

I’ve gone for an updated, performance-oriented resto-mod variant of this little amazing Cult Car, not a purist or collector original restoration type vehicle.

If it’s a bit unique, so be it, so am I.

Along the way, I’ve made a ton of mods, customizations and upgrades to my 2002, making it truly my own - unique and and one of a kind. And I’m never ‘done’. I’m at the point it’s less than 50% original parts through customization alone now…lol.  But it’s truly My car, My aesthetic, My Bimmer, My 2002.

But I love these great little saloons in all shapes, forms and conditions.  Mild to wild - original 1600s to wide-bodied race cars and everything in between.  I love the vital and vibrant community of car-crazy zealots and both dedicated and new owners that these four-to-five decade old vehicles have and continue to inspire.  I love the history and the engineering of this 'whispering bomb' and its iconic classic style and its uncanny beauty, balance, handling and pure drivability.

I'm taken in by the visceral 'all-in' full-senses engagement you get driving it:  the raucous symphony from the dual sidedrafts sucking in the oxygen as the revs quickly climb, the hard-wired near instantaneous feedback from the contact patch of the tires into the steering wheel, the unobstructed 360 degree view and the amazing line of sight along the subtlety shaped hood pointing you to your next adventure, and the intoxicatingly aromatic and nostalgic mixture of gasoline, fresh air, sunshine and rubber that's as potent as caffeine to quicken the pulse.

This is the little car that put BMW on the map here in the USA in the late 60s.  The little performance saloon that was practical, well engineered and left-and-righted so well that it was recognized by enthusiasts amid the height of the musclecar era.  A car that's considered one of the most influential cars of the last 50 years, that’s been called an ICON. Powered by a top-10 all-time engine in the ever-mighty inline-4 BMW M10, in an infinitely flickable and connected chassis, with timeless looks that can still stop folks in their tracks…

SO… it’s really really FUN.  And I’ve got MINE…  go find your own, my friend. ;)
